Everything you need to know about swimming at Center Parcs
If you're planning a trip to a Center Parcs Village then one of the most exciting attractions is undoubtedly the Subtropical Swimming Paradise. In this comprehensive guide, we'll dive into everything you need to know about swimming at Center Parcs, from the headline features of the pools to booking information and insider tips.

What is Swimming Like at Center Parcs?
The centrepiece of every village is the Subtropical Swimming Paradise, a massive indoor water park that offers year-round tropical temperatures and a wide variety of aquatic activities for all ages.

Here's what you can expect:

  1. Tropical Climate: You don't need to plan around the unpredictable British weather to enjoy the swimming pool. Regardless of the weather outside, the Subtropical Swimming Paradise maintains a balmy 29.5°C (85°F).
  2. Variety of Pools: From toddler-friendly shallow areas and relaxing hot tubs to rapids and wave machines there's a pool to suit everyone
  3. Thrilling Slides: Each village features a unique selection of water slides, ranging from gentle family rides to adrenaline-pumping vertical drops.
  4. Lazy Rivers: Relax and float along the gentle currents of the lazy river, perfect for all ages.
  5. Water Play Areas: Interactive splash zones and water playgrounds keep younger children entertained for hours.

For a first timer you might be wondering what the changing area is like in Center Parcs. It's really clean and private. There are individual booths for changing, larger family changing booths and larger again disabled changing rooms.

You enter one side, change, exit the other side where there are lines of lockers. Remember your band for unlocking a locker.

The Subtropical Swimming Paradise Experience
The Subtropical Swimming Paradise is more than just a pool - it's a full-day attraction. Here are some highlights:

  • Lush Vegetation: Tropical plants and trees create a jungle-like atmosphere.
  • Multiple Levels: Many villages have multi-level pool complexes with different attractions on each floor.
  • Outdoor Areas: Some villages offer outdoor pools and sunbathing areas for warmer days.
  • Cafes and Restaurants: Grab a snack or meal without leaving the pool area.

Cabanas at Center Parcs
For those looking for a touch of luxury, Center Parcs offers cabanas for rent within the Subtropical Swimming Paradise. These private retreats provide:

  •  A comfortable seating area
  •  TV and entertainment system
  •  Complimentary soft drinks and snacks
  •  Personal locker in the cabana

Cabanas are perfect for families or groups who want a home base during their pool day. They offer a quiet space to relax and recharge between swimming sessions.

When I went to Shwerwood Forest Center Parcs with a new born we used a Cabana so we had a base for the family and an area to feed the little one and get them to sleep.

Are thy necessary? Not at all. But they are worthwhile if you want to guarantee a dedicated private space.

Price of Swimming at Center Parcs
One of the best things about the Subtropical Swimming Paradise is that it's included in your Center Parcs stay. There's no additional charge to use the pools and slides during your visit. However, there are some optional extras:

  • Cabana Rental: We've covered the cabanas above, not neccassry by any means but could be useful for some groups. Prices vary by village and season, typically ranging from £70 to £120 per slot.
  • Special Activities: Some villages offer unique experiences like scuba diving lessons or mermaid swimming classes for an extra fee.

Do You Need to Book Center Parcs Swimming?
Here's the good news: general access to the Subtropical Swimming Paradise doesn't require booking. It's included with your stay, and you can visit as often as you like during opening hours (which are typically 10am-9pm but check your village or guest services to be sure).

However, there are a few exceptions:

 1. Cabanas: These need to be booked in advance, especially during peak seasons.
 2. Special Activities: Any extra classes or experiences should be reserved ahead of time.

During the Covid pandemic and various restrictions that were in place there was for a brief period a need to book a slot for swimming but this is no longer the case.

Top Tips for Swimming at Center Parcs
We covered some of our favourite hints and tips for swimming at Center Parcs previously but to summarise:

  1. Bring Multiple Swimsuits: With so much swimming available, it's nice to have a dry suit to change into.
  2. Pack Pool Shoes: The floors can get slippery, so pool shoes are a good idea if you're unsteady on your feet. I've previously brought a pair for my 3 year old for safety and comfort.
  3. Visit During Off-Peak Hours: Early mornings or later in the evenings tend to be less crowded. There's something nice about being in the pool under the lights.
  4. Bring Your Own Towels: While towels in your lodge should stay there, you'll need to bring your own for general pool use.
  5. Secure Your Valuables: Lockers are available, so make use of them to keep your belongings safe.
