How to connect a Nanit baby monitor while at Center Parcs
As a parent, keeping an eye on your little one is a top priority, even when you're on vacation. If you're heading to Center Parcs and planning to bring your Nanit baby monitor, you might encounter a small hiccup: the Nanit doesn't play well with captive portal WiFi networks like the one used at Center Parcs.

But don't worry! We've got you covered with three practical solutions to ensure your Nanit stays connected throughout your stay.

The Challenge: Captive Portals and Nanit
Before we dive into the solutions, let's quickly address the core issue. Center Parcs, like many holiday resorts and hotels, uses a captive portal for their WiFi network. This requires users to log in or agree to terms via a webpage before accessing the internet. Unfortunately, devices like the Nanit baby monitor aren't designed to navigate these portals, leaving parents in a bit of a bind.

Solution 1: Tether to Your Phone
The simplest solution is to use your smartphone as a mobile hotspot.

Pros:
  •  Quick and easy to set up
  •  No additional equipment required

Cons:
  •  May consume a lot of your phone's battery
  •  Could incur additional data charges depending on your plan

How to do it:
  1.  Go to your phone's settings and enable the mobile hotspot feature
  2.  Set a network name and password
  3.  Connect your Nanit to this new network just like you would at home

Solution 2: Create a Network from Your Laptop
If you've brought a laptop, you can turn it into a WiFi hotspot.

Pros:
  •  Doesn't drain your phone's battery
  •  Likely to have a more stable connection than a phone

Cons:
  •  Requires you to keep your laptop on and in range
  •  May not be feasible if you haven't brought a laptop

How to do it:
Well this depends on your laptop, let's try cover the two most likely scenarios here:

On a Mac:
  1.  Go to System Settings > General > Sharing
  2.  Select "Internet Sharing" from the list
  3.  Choose the internet source (e.g., Ethernet) and select "Wi-Fi" as the method to share with other computers
  4.  Click "Create Network" to set up the hotspot

For Windows:
  1.  Open Command Prompt as administrator
  2.  Type: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=wifinameyouwant key=12345678 (replace with your desired network name and password)
  3.  Press Enter, then type: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
  4.  Enable Internet Connection Sharing for the new network in Network Settings

Solution 3: Use a Travel Router (Recommended)
For frequent travellers or those seeking a dedicated solution, a travel router like the GL.iNet Beryl is an excellent choice.

Pros:
  •  Purpose-built for situations like this
  •  Can create a private, secure network for all your devices
  •  Doesn't rely on your phone or laptop
  • Added benefit of running adblockers or a VPN on the router

Cons:
  •  Requires purchasing additional hardware
  •  Another device to pack as well as more cables and plugs

How to do it:

 1. Set up your travel router (follow the manufacturer's instructions)

 2. Connect the router to Center Parcs WiFi and complete the captive portal login

 3. Connect your Nanit (and other devices) to the network created by your travel router

My Personal Recommendation

Having tried all these methods, I personally prefer using a travel router, specifically the GL.iNet Beryl. It's a small, portable device that takes the hassle out of connecting multiple devices in various travel scenarios. Not only does it solve the Nanit connection issue, but it also provides a secure, private network for all your devices during your stay.

Wrapping Up
The Wifi coverage in Center Parcs lodges is generally excellent but don't be caught out if you plan to bring a Nanit baby monitor with you to Center Parcs. With these solutions, you can quickly get your Nanit baby monitor up and running, ensuring peace of mind while you enjoy your break. Whether you opt for the simplicity of phone tethering, the convenience of a laptop hotspot, or the versatility of a travel router, you'll be able to keep an eye on your little one without missing a beat.

Happy travels, and enjoy your stay at Center Parcs!
